Mark Adams

Board Member

Mark Adams was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended Tufts University and the London School of Economics, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1984. Upon graduation, Adams joined M/C Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm specializing in media. While at M/C Partners, he earned an MBA and an MS in Communications from Boston University.

Adams managed the B2B, medical, and financial publishing portfolios for M/C Partners for several decades, overseeing a multi-year, multi-platform roll-up in the specialty publishing and digital space.

In 2014 Adams launched Adams Publishing Group, LLC, with the sole purpose of building a community news company focusing on the under-served interests of smaller and medium-sized counties and cities. APG has made numerous acquisitions and launched multiple news products over the years. The company currently employs 2000 print and digital professionals in thirteen states.

Adams devotes 100% of his work time to the company, both as CEO, and in quarterbacking its acquisition activities. He’s served on various cultural boards over the years, including the Palm Springs Art Museum, the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the McCallum Theater, the Aids Assistance Program, and the Palm Springs Friends of the Philharmonic. He currently serves on the boards of the Associated Press and the News Media Alliance. Adams became involved in various DAP initiatives dating back to the mid-1990s

Mark and his husband pf ten years Tyler split their time between Palm Springs and New York City. Both are avid skiers, and spend as much time as possible at their cabin in Lake Tahoe.

Scot Karp

Board Member

Scot holds a degree in architecture and urban planning from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (1979), with a minor in real estate from the School of Business Administration.

For 45 years, he has worked in real estate and real estate development.

Residents of Boca Raton, Florida, for the past 41 years, he and his husband, Lance Karp, have had a home in the Coachella Valley — whose interiors were designed by the world-renowned Steve Chase — since 2018.

Scot has served the South Florida Board of Realtors on the following committees:

  • Professional Standards, 30+ years
  • Ethics and Arbitration, 30+ years
  • Strategic Planning, 20+ years
  • Multiple Listing Service, 25+ years
  • Professional Development, 15+ years

He has also served on the Philanthropy Engagement Committee at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital (now Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital) for nearly 10 years. The Karps were active members of the Philanthropy Guild there.

Scot has volunteered at the Center for Group Counseling, Boca Raton as a group facilitator.

Additionally, he is a certified trainer for the Janine Driver course “You Can’t Lie To Me” by the Body Language Institute of Washington D.C., as well as a certified facilitator for the John Maxwell Leadership Group.

Scot and Lance are members of the Founders Circle at both the McCallum Theatre and at the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre, and have been donors and Partners for Life at DAP Health since 2018.

Veronica Valenzuela Williams, MBA, MSN, PHN, RNC-OB, RN

Board Member

Veronica Valenzuela Williams, MBA, MSN, PHN, RNC-OB, RN relocated to the Coachella Valley 18 years ago from Alaska on a nursing travel assignment and made this beautiful valley her home. She has over 25 years of experience in healthcare with most of those years being in Women’s Health. Veronica worked 17 years at Desert Regional Medical Center, as both a Staff Nurse and Perinatal Manager. Following her years of employment at Desert Regional, Veronica worked one year at JFK Memorial Hospital in the role of Director of Maternity Services before transitioning to Eisenhower Health’s Family Birth Center as the Director of Maternity Services. Here she has been instrumental not only in the reopening of the Family Birth Center, but also in the licensing of the Inland Empire’s first licensed OB Emergency Department. Additionally, Veronica has been involved with organizations to bring awareness to human trafficking, has helped develop the first Maternal Substance Exposure Program in the Coachella Valley, and is a member of Eisenhower Health’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee. As the proud mother of two teenagers, a daughter who is currently completing her first year at UC Irvine and a son who is a sophomore in High School, Veronica remains passionate about making a difference in the community in which she lives and works.

Bruce W. Finch

Board Member

 

Bruce W. Finch has spent the past 40 years in the global travel industry, primarily focused on corporate travel and events.  Bruce graduated from Salem State University with a BS in Geography with a concentration in Travel and Tourism.  Bruce has worked on both the supplier and buyer sides of the travel business including such companies as Eastern Airlines, The Gillette Company, Fleet Boston Financial as well as owner/manager of his own travel company in the Boston area.  Most recently, Bruce was the Senior Director of Global Travel and Meeting Services for Autodesk, Inc.

Bruce served as chairperson of the Technology Committee for the New England Business Travel Association, co-chaired the Global Business Travel Association’s Technology and Sustainability committees. Bruce served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and the Salem State University Travel and Tourism Advisory Board. 

After retiring from Autodesk in 2020, Bruce and his husband Keith moved to Palm Springs full time from Boston. Both are active volunteers for DAP Health and other Palm Springs area non-profits.

Karyl E. Ketchum, Ph.D.

Board Member

Karyl E. Ketchum, Ph.D., is a Professor and the Department Chair of Women, Gender, and Queer Studies at California State University, Fullerton. She is also a Senator representing the Humanities and Social Sciences in the CSUF Academic Senate. Professor Ketchum received both her MA and her Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from the University of California, Davis. She has published internationally in some of the most influential academic journals in her field. Her book, Gender Diversity and LGBTQ Inclusion in K-12 Schools: A Guide to Supporting Students, Changing Lives (Routledge), is a first resource for educators interested in creating schools that are responsive to the needs of women and LGBTQIA+ students.

Her work has, for decades, focused on creating institutions and systems attuned to the needs of minoritized and historically marginalized groups. Toward this end she routinely acts as a pro bono expert witness for women and LGBTQIA+ refugees seeking asylum in the U.S. and created and implemented a national training program for Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers working with these same asylum seekers. In her role as a founding member and President of the Orange County Equality Coalition School Compliance Task Force, she led a class action lawsuit against the California Dept of Education for their mishandling of complaints of discrimination by California public school students. She has also received special commissions and grants from the American Psychological Association and from the California Department of Mental Health.

Professor Ketchum has held multiple community leadership positions, including as an advisor to Chapman University's Center for Global Law and Development - LGBTQ Rights and Feminism Division, on the Executive Board for The Orange County Equality Coalition, and for The LGBT Center of Orange County. Dr. Ketchum is a reviewer for The M. Katherine Baird Darmer Equality Scholarship for law students. Her awards include Planned Parenthood of California's Advocacy Award, the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California Vern Bulloughs Social Justice Award, the Rich Cook Community Bridge Award, the Orange County Lavender Bar Association Equality Award, the OCEC Excellence in Leadership Award, and the Women for Orange County Social Justice Award.

Eve E. Fromberg-Edelstein, Esq. 

Co-Vice Chair

Eve E. Fromberg-Edelstein was raised the Palm Springs area. Eve has been a member of the California Bar since December 1997.  Ms. Fromberg-Edelstein graduated from the University of San Diego in 1994 and California Western Law School in 1997.  Ms. Fromberg-Edelstein has practiced real estate, business and corporate law.  In 2008, Eve was the CEO of Smile Factory, a local non-profit agency which provides free dental screenings and treatment to public school children.  This experience gave her invaluable experience in working with non-profit organizations and knowledge of the day-to-day operational challenges they face. 

Ms. Fromberg-Edelstein has provided corporate and governance counsel to several nonprofit clients. Ms. Fromberg-Edelstein other areas of practice include real estate and general business law.  She also has facilitated many board retreats and spoken as a legal expert of board governance and legal compliance. Eve is a member of the Desert Bar Association, California Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.  Ms. Fromberg-Edelstein resides with her husband Mark and son Jack in Rancho Mirage.

Eve is involved with many local organizations.  She has served as a board president for Pathfinder Ranch, and Cielo Vista Charter School Governing Board. She has served as a commissioner with the City of Rancho Mirage Housing Commission, a board member for The Foundation for Palm Springs Unified School District, Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs, and as board president of Palm Springs Pathfinders, a woman’s auxiliary organization.
